Data Governance Analyst (for Temp Workers)
The Trips Data Governance team at Booking.com manages data for all aspects of trips, excluding stays, enabling teams to understand and improve business performance and customer experience.
They are currently seeking a curious and enthusiastic Data Manager to join their impactful Data Governance team to support the vertical growth of Cars. The team is passionate about helping people travel, embracing challenges and change.
Role Overview:
In this role, a Data Manager combines technical knowledge, business insight, and expert communication to provide critical information about data systems. This position focuses on supporting business needs with high-quality data through monitoring, issue detection, impact quantification, end-to-end data corrections, standardization, and architectural optimization.
You will report to a Senior Data Manager and collaborate with other Data Managers on strategic objectives for data quality, governance, metadata management and regulatory compliance at Booking.com. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with Product Managers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Insights Analysts to build out Data & Analytics in the Cars domain. The ideal candidate is passionate about data, eager to learn, tactical, and able to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Automate and implement Data Quality checks proactively to detect and measure DQ.
Identify pain points, and propose/create automated processes/reports to accelerate analysis and root cause identification.
Analyze and profile data to detect priority issues and investigate resolutions; compile and present analysis (including impact quantification) to gain stakeholder attention and prioritization.
Ensure Data Quality processes are followed, engaging alignment, accountability, and urgency for end-to-end data corrections.
Understand business priorities and cultivate a business-purpose/data-driven mindset within engineering/data teams.
Guide improvements and issue mitigation in the end-to-end (e2e) flow (points of failure, data modelling).
Ensure regulatory, audit & policy requirements are met within the Cars domain.
Understand pros and cons of different teams involved and support decision-making.
Propose and implement improvements on standards used in different teams (e.g., MDM, data modelling standards).
Conduct research, surveys, and interviews to understand business and their priorities to support subjective data quality assessment (NPS).
Develop and implement processes and training to improve Data literacy at Booking.com.
Work closely with Data Product Managers and Data Engineers to provide better quality data for their Data Products.
Keep essential documents up to date, such as Data Dictionary & Business Glossary.
Partner with Insights Analysts to ensure verifiable, trustworthy data for business reporting and ensure all reports are catalogued.
Perform 'Data Discovery' to develop a solid understanding of the data domain, including architecture and data flows.
Create and maintain Data Lineage documentation.
Synthesize, aggregate, and summarize technical details for a business audience.
Role Qualifications and Requirements (Essential):
Ability to write complex logic using SQL, Python, or similar languages for data analysis.
Experience profiling data or performing exploratory data analysis.
Skilled with Data Visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI.
Experience working on Data Governance, lifecycle management processes.
1-3 years of relevant experience.
Proficient in working within an Agile product-based organization with good organizational and task management skills.
Ability to articulate the difference between a Data Warehouse and a Data Lake and elaborate on different technologies for both.
Experience working with ETL, data workflows, and data models – capable of getting technical with engineers.
Strong communication skills – able to communicate with senior managers across disciplines about Data Governance & quality principles & topics.
Good stakeholder management, collaboration, and influencing skills – able to deliver facts concisely and impactfully.
Highly analytical and methodical in problem-solving, with a track record of documenting and presenting complex data analysis to diverse audiences.
Clear sense of ownership and ability to deliver and maintain the highest quality solutions.
Desirable Qualifications:
Any vocational qualifications related to data analysis or business analysis.
Experience using AI agents & technologies to improve productivity in governance & quality processes
Experience working with 3rd parties.
Experience implementing a data quality project, product or tool.
Experience using data governance tools such as Collibra.
Experience in Analytics (i.e., Finance, Marketing, Sales, Operations).
Experience in Data Engineering.
