Please note, this is a 10-month assignment for freelancers, requiring a minimum 2 day per week office presence.


This position works within a data science team, and with stakeholders throughout the company, to generate understanding, strategy and guide key decision making based on data. They spend their time doing practical data science and machine learning work to transform complex data sets into pragmatic insights which they provide through skilled story-telling. They are expected to be a unique hybrid of data hackers, business analysts, communicators and mentors that maintain a strong customer focus and values pragmatism over perfection.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Transform large, complex datasets into pragmatic, actionable insights


  • Prioritize impactful business problems, translate them into feasible data problems and solve them effectively by applying suitable statistical data analysis and modeling methods


  • Identify, source and organize data required for the solution and prepare it in a way that makes it fit for use


  • Ability to identify key stakeholders and manage them proactively and independently through effective communication and addressing their needs


  • Uses data visualization skills and storytelling to drive actions from stakeholders


  • Design and interpret quantitative experiments to objectively guide key business decision making


  • Have the capacity to thrive in our fast-paced environment, adapt quickly and take ownership of their work


  • Challenge ideas and methods while working together with talented, highly skilled team members. Ensure quality of their own and others’ work, by making them reproducible and replicable and by validating through peer review


  • Experience solving real problems using data mining techniques and with statistical rigor


  • Convey complex analysis results clearly and with conviction to all levels of stakeholders


  • Leverage Data Science and Machine Learning for impact while learning to incorporate scalability, reproducibility and long term orientation in their work.




Requirements of special knowledge/skills:


  • Master degree or PhD in a quantitative field (computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, bioinformatics, etc.)


  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a relevant role


  • Experience solving real problems using data mining techniques and with statistical rigor


  • Strong technical skills in machine learning, neural networks, causal inference, statistics, experimentation


  • Strong working knowledge of SQL, Python, Spark, Git, Airflow


  • Strong knowledge of data management (engineering, data pipelines, workflows)


  • Strong knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of different types of data analysis and/or data science modeling


  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement


  • Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity and align stakeholders with varied viewpoints


  • Strong skills in translating business problems into data problems


  • Strong focus on generating and measuring impact


  • Strong data visualization and storytelling skills


  • Experience with attribution modeling a plus


  • Experience of working in a digital/product and/or marketplace organization a plus
