Jira Subject Matter Expert (For independent contractors)
A Jira Subject Matter Expert owns the setup, configuration, and ongoing management of Jira Cloud environments to support effective team collaboration and streamlined workflows at Booking.com. They are responsible for establishing and optimizing team structures, permissions, and project configurations to enable seamless operations across various business units.
In addition, this role involves building and maintaining APIs and integrations between Jira and other internal tools and systems, ensuring that data flows efficiently and securely to meet user needs. They collaborate closely with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to design solutions that enhance user experience and improve process automation.
A Jira SME understands that the quality of automation, API reliability, and integrations is as critical as the core platform itself. They continually refactor and enhance automation scripts and connections to support sustainable development practices and operational stability. They work with cross-functional teams to prioritize and implement technical solutions, including custom workflows, webhooks, and app integrations.
Key Responsibilities:
Jira Cloud Setup & Administration:
Configure and maintain Jira Cloud projects, boards, workflows, permissions, and user groups to optimize team productivity and collaboration.
Establish best practices for project structures aligned with business objectives.
Team & Workflow Configuration:
Facilitate the creation of efficient team structures, roles, and permission schemes that align with organizational needs.
Design and implement customized workflows to support diverse project requirements.
API & System Integrations:
Develop, test, and maintain REST APIs and webhooks to connect Jira with internal systems such as booking platforms, CRM, CI/CD tools, and reporting systems.
Ensure secure and reliable data exchanges.
Automation & Scripting:
Build automation rules and scripts within Jira (using Jira Automation, ScriptRunner, or similar tools) to streamline processes like issue transitions, notifications, and data synchronization, reducing manual effort.
Operational Monitoring & Optimization:
Monitor integration health and Jira platform performance, proactively resolving issues and optimizing configurations for high availability and efficiency.
Security & Compliance:
Maintain security standards, manage permissions, and ensure data integrity across Jira environments, adhering to company policies and best practices.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
Develop comprehensive documentation for configurations, APIs, and automation workflows.
Provide training and support to users and teams.
Continuous Improvement:
Evaluate new Jira Cloud features and third-party apps to enhance capabilities.
Lead initiatives to improve workflows, automation processes, and system integrations to meet evolving business needs.
