Regional Banking Lead (For independent contractors)
The Regional Banking Lead is a senior banking and payments professional within the BKNG Treasury team, responsible for delivering complex banking initiatives across the organization. This role is not anchored to one geography; it operates across markets, entities and banking partners to design, implement and optimize banking and payment solutions that support business growth, operational resilience and regulatory requirements.
Working across cross functional internal teams and external stakeholders, the role helps shape banking strategy and execution across established treasury teams in multiple jurisdictions. It is responsible for identifying improvement opportunities, selecting the right banking solutions, banking partners and products, and leading scalable, well controlled implementation across the organisation.
The role provides senior banking expertise across a broad portfolio of business and treasury priorities, supporting both existing operations and new strategic initiatives. It requires the ability to assess complex business models across Accommodations, Flights, Attractions, Insurance and Ground Transport, translate those requirements into practical banking and payments solutions, and drive delivery through strong stakeholder management. The role is expected to bring structure, challenge existing ways of working where improvements are needed, and help ensure banking solutions and banking operations across jurisdictions remain compliant, efficient, controlled and fit for purpose.
Key responsibilities
Lead complex banking and payments workstreams across multiple jurisdictions, including BKNG brands bank fees harmonization, TMS implementations, payment flow migrations, bank account migrations, framework SLA implementation, banking platform changes and broader treasury operating model initiatives.
Work across established treasury teams in different jurisdictions to review current banking operations, identify improvement opportunities and implement scalable, practical enhancements. Leverage automation and AI applications to enable structural incremental efficiency gain.
Translate business, regulatory and operational requirements into practical banking solutions and delivery plans, balancing control, scalability, automation and business needs.
Build a strong understanding of complex business models across Accommodations, Flights, Attractions, Insurance and Ground Transport, and reflect those requirements in banking and payments solution design.
Own banking due diligence and solution design, including assessment of local regulations, product capability, service model, cost, automation, counterparty risk, liquidity considerations, resilience and contingency requirements.
Drive implementation of bank connectivity and payment infrastructure, including SWIFT connectivity, statement and payment messaging, file-based bank integrations and related banking products.
Lead the selection, onboarding and ongoing management of banking partners and external providers, maintaining strong senior relationships with banks, payment service providers, fintech partners, regulators and external counsel where relevant.
Work closely with internal stakeholders including Compliance, Legal, Financial Systems, Treasury Strategy, Cash Management, Risk, Tax, Accounting and relevant technology teams to deliver end-to-end banking solutions.
Support and, where appropriate, own banking-related controls, governance, policies and process standards covering bank account management, bank relationship management, signatory governance, access governance and change control.
Ensure banking solutions are implemented with a strong control framework, clear documentation and appropriate approval workflows, while maintaining a focus on efficiency and standardisation.
Contribute subject matter expertise to strategic treasury and financial services programmes, including regulated payments enablement, bank account structure design, banking technology evolution and service delivery model improvements.
Experience and qualifications
At least 5 years of relevant experience in banking, payments, treasury or financial infrastructure within a large multinational organisation.
Broad end-to-end banking and payments experience, with exposure across account opening, bank product implementation, payment flows, bank account lifecycle management and complex change programmes.
Proven experience delivering technical and operational projects such as TMS implementations, payment flow migrations, bank account migrations, banking platform set-up or redesign, and related systems integrations.
Strong knowledge of banking connectivity and payment infrastructure, including SWIFT connectivity and ISO 20022 or equivalent payment and statement messaging standards.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated experience working with banking partners, external providers and senior internal stakeholders in a complex governance environment.
Strong understanding of control frameworks, policy ownership, approvals, audit evidence and regulated operating environments.
Experience partnering effectively with Legal, Compliance, Financial Systems, Treasury, Risk, Accounting and operational teams to deliver cross-functional outcomes.
Ability to understand complex business models across Accommodations, Flights, Attractions, Insurance and Ground Transport, and translate those requirements into fit-for-purpose banking and payments solutions.
Experience in regulated financial services, client money account structures, safeguarding environments or payment-entity operating models.
Experience with bank account management in SAP BAM, FIS Quantum, treasury and risk platforms, bank portals and related financial systems environments.
Familiarity with banking platform governance, user access controls, signatory management and regulated documentation requirements including KYC and bank mandate processes.
Strong judgement, structured problem solving and the ability to navigate ambiguity across multiple stakeholders, jurisdictions and project streams.
