The Role

We are looking to hire an experienced Programme Manager (contract) who will work in the Trips Data team, to manage delivery of the Trips business unit migration from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA. This is a contract role, initially through mid‑2027, aligned to the Trips SAP RISE migration lifecycle and based in Manchester, UK.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of supporting and collaborating with product and engineering teams. And possess a strong drive to deliver high-quality software as part of a passionate, experienced and forward thinking Trips Data Function.

Your Responsibilities

  • Drive the ERP Transformation: Manage end-to-end delivery of the SAP S/4HANA RISE migration for the Trips Business Unit (BTL), moving from the foundational ‘Prepare’ phase through the ‘Explore,’ ‘Realise’, and ‘Deploy’ phases to a successful go-live in 2027.

  • Manage Complex Governance & Stakeholders: Act as the central coordinator between internal Booking verticals (BTL, BHFS, Booking.com), external implementation partners (EY), and the software vendor (SAP) to ensure alignment on outcomes and timelines.

  • Own Phase Deliverables: Ensure the timely completion of critical phase-specific deliverables, such as the Program Charter, Key Design Decisions, Enterprise Structure definition, and Change Management concepts during the ‘Prepare’ phase.

  • Risk & Dependency Management: Proactively visualize and manage the program RAID log (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies), specifically addressing the complexities of decoupling BTL from shared legacy infrastructure and managing interim architecture risks.

  • Drive Decision Making: Facilitate the resolution of Key Design Decisions by ensuring the right stakeholders (SteerCo, Architecture Review Board) have the necessary data and context to approve solutions.

  • Plan & Track Velocity: Establish a realistic, data-driven delivery plan and multi-year roadmap, tracking progress against clear outcomes and leading indicators.

  • Establish and Run Program Governance: Define and run lean, fit-for-purpose program governance (ceremonies, cadences, decision forums) consistent with Booking.com Program Standards, ensuring clear accountability, decision-making pathways, and effective communication across all stakeholders.

  • Quality & Best Practice: Ensure the migration adheres to industry standards and ‘Clean Core’ principles, avoiding any customisation pitfalls to enable agility and faster release cycles.

  • Continuous Improvement: Partner with delivery and coaching teams to continuously improve delivery practices, leveraging data and retrospectives to optimise flow, reduce risk, and improve predictability.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Experience: 10+ years of project and program management experience in digital organizations, including 5+ years leading large-scale ERP or SAP transformations end-to-end.

  • ERP Migration Experience: Proven experience leading delivery of critical ERP transformations, specifically SAP S/4HANA migrations or large-scale financial system overhauls in digital organizations.

  • Vendor & Partner Management: Extensive experience managing external implementation partners (e.g., Big 4 consultancies) and software vendors, ensuring they deliver to scope and quality standards.

  • Programme Lifecycle Leadership: 5+ years of experience leading complex programs through distinct phases (e.g. Discovery, Prepare, Explore, Realise, Deploy), with a focus on rigorous scope control, change management, and timeline management across multiple departments.

  • Financial Domain Expertise: Experience working with Finance processes (Order-to-Cash, Record-to-Report, Tax, Treasury) and understanding their implementation, ideally within SAP S/4HANA.

  • Stakeholder Influence: Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence SteerCo members, Directors, and architectural leads, aligning conflicting priorities across Finance, Product, and Engineering.

  • Global & Matrixed Environment: Proven experience operating in a global, matrixed environment, coordinating distributed teams and stakeholders across time zones and functions.

  • Strategic Execution: Ability to balance immediate operational tasks (e.g., Jira/Confluence setup, workshop scheduling) with high-level strategic alignment (e.g., Target Architecture refinement, Security Strategy).

Other Beneficial Skills

  • SAP S/4HANA Knowledge: Specific knowledge of SAP S/4HANA RISE, SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform), and MDG-F (Master Data Governance for Finance).

  • Change Management: Experience supporting Change Management workstreams, helping organizations adapt to new processes and tools during major system transitions.

  • Legacy Modernization: Experience navigating ‘Monolith to Microservices’ or ‘On-prem to Cloud’ migrations, specifically understanding the complexities of data migration and legacy system decommissioning.
