Booking NL
Senior Change Manager (For independent contractors)
Role Summary
We are looking for a Senior Change Manager to lead the change portfolio and strategy for our Tech Enablement Program. You will manage Booking.com’s most complex technical transformation, providing a clear path for new ways-of-working and architectural evolution.
We need a pragmatic, experienced change manager who hits the ground running to provide immediate structure to the program's change efforts. You will act as the strategic counterpart to the Portfolio TPM and our Tech VPs, applying change frameworks to accelerate delivery rather than create administrative bottlenecks.
Core Program Drivers
You will design and lead the change strategy and governance for three critical pillars:
How we work Together (Operational Efficiency & Agility): Creating conditions for speed by narrowing focus to high-impact priorities, reducing cross-team dependencies, and driving the active removal of blockers at all levels.
How we Build & Run (Engineering Excellence): Eliminating engineering friction and reducing system maintenance efforts by increasing change frequency through automation and ensuring scalable, consistent delivery environments.
What Tech we build (Architectural Evolution): Removing structural constraints by strengthening data ownership and transitioning from legacy systems to decoupled, evolvable services that allow teams to move independently.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio & Roadmap Leadership: Design and own the end-to-end change roadmap for the Tech Enablement portfolio. Ensure alignment between technical milestones and organizational readiness.
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement: Run the change governance process and act as a trusted advisor and sounding board for Portfolio and Pillar TPM’s and Engineering VPs.
Strategic Influence: Influence and enable VP and SVP-level leadership to lead the change. Provide candid feedback and a transparent perspective on program risks.
Pragmatic Frameworks: Implement right-sized change management methodologies (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR) that provide rigour and visibility without becoming overly process-driven.
Technical Storytelling: Work with your communications counterpart to assimilate complex strategic information into one simple, compelling narrative that aligns the engineering community with the program's long-term vision.
Problem Solving & Dependencies: Identify and manage complex dependencies across multiple initiatives, breaking down highly complex roadblocks into actionable solutions.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of change managers dedicated to executing the Tech Enablement portfolio strategy.
Requirements
Experience: 10+ years of change management experience, specifically leading large-scale organizational transformations and portfolio-level change.
Execution & Pragmatism: Proven ability to provide structure to "messy" environments quickly, with a strong bias for action and tangible outcomes.
Technical Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of technology environments, specifically SDLC, Agile methodologies, and modern architectural principles (microservices, decoupling).
High-Level Influence: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a track record of influencing VP/SVP-level stakeholders and facilitating challenging groups.
Data-Driven Leadership: Expert at mastering data handling to tell a clear story, drive executive decision-making, and track portfolio-level KPIs.
Ambiguity Management: Excel in environments with high complexity, shifting scopes, and slow or difficult decision-making landscapes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading change for global engineering populations (2000+ developers).
Proven track record in DevOps, Cloud, or Architectural transformations.
