Senior Legal Counsel (For independent contractors)
Senior Legal Counsel, Regulatory Compliance, will have the opportunity to work in groundbreaking EU regulation impacting digital platforms not only in the EU, but globally. Booking.com has been designated by the European Commission as a Very Large Online Platform and, as such, established an independent Compliance Function.
In this position, the Senior Legal Counsel, Regulatory Compliance will have the opportunity to provide legal advice and support the duties of the Compliance Function. The role will advise on a range of legal questions related to the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act related to Booking.com’s products and services, demonstrating familiarity with regulatory contexts and commercial considerations Booking.com’s growing Legal team is looking for capable regulatory counsel with great potential who will work directly with and alongside business clients to provide support and identify potential legal issues.
The role demands a strong legal regulatory background with experience in one or, preferably more, specific relevant areas such as competition and consumer law.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Lead the legal interpretation for DSA/DMA in relation to matters relevant to the Compliance Function
Provide strategic support for the DSA systemic risk management cycle
Draft relevant policies and procedures
Draft reports to various internal stakeholders, up to and including the company’s Leadership Team
Coordinate the response to regulatory inquiries related to the DSA/DMA
Analyze products, policies and initiatives to provide practical and actionable legal advice, including legal assessment of risk across different jurisdictions.
Ensure compliance with DSA/DMA and related international laws and regulations under the scope of the Compliance Function.
Provide legal and strategic business advice to help develop a comprehensive, long term approach to the relationship with both internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with the Public Affairs team on regulatory matters related to the development of legislation related to the DSA/DMA.
Support, when needed, group companies on their efforts to comply with the DSA and DMA.
Be a team-player, interested in building out a state-of-the-art function to support the expanding needs of a growing, international business.
Requirements of special knowledge / skills
Working experience with the Digital Services Act and/or Digital Markets Act
5-8 years practicing law, with a mix of in-house and big firm experience preferred
Admission to practice law in at least one of the EU member states
Experience with and passion for data privacy, consumer protection issues in the digital environment, platform liability and competition law.
Ability to provide legal and regulatory guidance on the design and modification of products, proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and proper disclosures, document guidance for attorneys and non-attorneys, and help improve processes for review.
Ability to thrive in an environment of change and ambiguity in the law.
Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple assignments simultaneously and effectively managing conflicting priorities.
Excellent writing, communication, verbal and written, and organizational skills.
