We are looking for a Senior Projects Accountant / Business Analyst to join our Global Payments Accounting Team in Amsterdam. In this highly dynamic, individual contributor role, you will represent Accounting at the ground level -mapping out data structures, testing fund flows, and designing end-to-end accounting requirements for new FinTech initiatives. You won't be managing a team; instead, you will be the hands-on technical bridge between core Finance, Product, and Data Engineering.

Reporting to the Controller, you will operate at a detailed level to ensure that when Booking.com launches innovative new payment products, our financial systems capture them flawlessly from Pay-in to Payout.

Key Responsibilities

As a hands-on project owner, you will:

- Own the Accounting Blueprint: Lead the design, implementation, and rigorous UAT testing of financial data flows for large-scale FinTech initiatives, ensuring long-term system scalability.

- Bridge the Gap: Actively collaborate with Product, Tech, and Data Analytics to translate complex product mechanics into clear accounting, reporting, and control requirements.

- Deep-Dive into Documentation: Prepare granular documentation for new processes, data schemas, fund flows, and operational instructions so they can be seamlessly handed over to operational teams.

- Build Reporting Solutions: Partner with Business Intelligence teams to design, test, and integrate automated reporting solutions for new products into our financial systems.

- Incubate New Products: Manage the initial, post-launch month-end closing processes for newly introduced initiatives, acting as the hands-on operator until the process is mature enough to be transitioned to the standard operational close team.

- Solve Complex Data Problems: Act as the subject matter expert for the broader accounting team on transactional data, resolving systemic accounting challenges as they arise.

- Ensure Compliance: Partner with external providers, local accountants, and auditors to bake compliance and robust internal controls directly into new project designs.

Requirements & Skills

This role requires a unique blend of financial acumen and technical curiosity. We are looking for someone who loves getting their hands dirty in systems and data.

- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience, with a proven track record of active participation in finance projects, system implementations, or product launches.

- The Right Mindset: You thrive as an individual contributor. You enjoy detailed execution, data mapping, and problem-solving rather than overseeing the work of others.

- Tech & Data Savvy: Comfortable navigating big data environments. Ability to grasp complex technical/product architectures and translate them into debits and credits.

- Stakeholder Management: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams (Product, Data Analytics, Technical Accounting, and Engineering).

- Systems & Frameworks: Strong proficiency in financial systems—SAP S/4HANA experience is highly preferred. Good foundational understanding of US GAAP and standard month-end close procedures.

- Drive: A proactive, self-motivated self-starter who takes complete ownership of deliverables in a fast-paced, evolving FinTech environment.

- Language: Fluent in both written and spoken English.

The payrate for independent contractors is 30-88 EUR/hr.
