Senior UX Writer (For independent contractors)
Senior UX Writers are experts in user experience, specialising in UX writing, content strategy and localisation. Their main goal is to help users navigate, understand and use our products with ease. They always take a data-informed approach, using user research and leading lines of experimentation to identify patterns and trends, develop strategies, messaging hierarchies and frameworks, and iterate on our learnings in order to solve user problems and achieve product goals. To do so, they work alongside product managers, designers, engineers, researchers, data analysts and marketers, amongst others. Senior UX Writers have a responsibility to create and safeguard an informed, unified voice that people recognise and trust. They own the end-to-end journey of the content they create for apps, websites and other digital platforms from concept to completion, translation to performance, and everything in between.
This role will work on our new product development, GenAI-powered customer experiences. Knowledge of prompting and experience developing GenAI products, working with GenAI tech and tooling in the product development process is strongly preferred.
Key responsibilities:
Content strategy: Informs, proactively defines and drives creation of a narrative, strategy and product vision or other UX writing opportunities – utilising data and appropriate content strategy, planning and design process methodologies – to meet long-term and more immediate user needs and business opportunities.
Focus on user needs: Can understand and articulate user needs and pain points coming from qualitative research and quantitative data to create experiences that drive business outcomes, while validating these efforts via experimentation and user feedback.
Familiar with diverse research practices and principles. Works together with researchers to distil feedback into actionable hypotheses. Proactively identifies and drives content focused user research in alignment with experts in their area.
Proactively drives experimentation efforts to validate writing and content strategy for their topics. Utilises insights to propel product development forward. Shares insights often and in an organised way to help spread knowledge and improve quality outputs.
Writing delivery and implementation: Articulates and implements quality writing solutions and features based on strategic objectives and available data, while collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Proactively leads the generation and implementation of novel ideas and UX writing solutions. Able to define and implement UX writing solutions to solve significantly more complex problems with greater dependencies.
Localization: Considers and adapts writing and content strategies to global as well as local audiences and manage end-to-end localisation processes using UX writing tools from briefing to technical implementation.
Can troubleshoot complex translation bugs, implementation and quality issues.
Writing and content design quality: Ability to work with, apply and scale established writing, content design, brand and UX standards to ensure the highest quality deliverables. Proactively addresses usability issues and content inconsistencies/errors, utilising a clear understanding of the technical and business impact of such projects.
Identifies and evolves established standards, guidelines and processes. Proactively improves existing content and frameworks within their area. Collaborates with craft or other discipline leaders to implement and measure success of these improvements.
Leadership and guidance: Creates a collaborative, engaging and safe environment, drives content strategy and set the pace to ensure UX writing teams are delivering. Manages various dependencies, resolves technical disputes, solves issues and unblocks problems across multiple topics, departments and business units.
Organises and participates in craft-related sessions to bring stakeholders along on their process, influences content strategy direction and assists less experienced UX Writers where necessary (workshops, sprints, critiques).
Stakeholder management: Ability to adapt, communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues of various roles, seniority and departments in order to align and deliver on requirements and commitments. Able to manage and incorporate stakeholder feedback/requirements into their work before escalating conflicts.
Storytelling and presentation: Ability to deliver clear, well-structured and meaningful information to target audiences and stakeholders, using appropriate communication mediums, assets and language.
Understands and effectively communicates the how, what, why, and impact of their writing, research and content strategy to diverse stakeholders (both written and verbal).
Requirements of special knowledge/skills:
Exceptional writing skills and well-versed in writing for all devices and platforms
Native-level fluency in English
Comfortable creating a content strategy and identifying, driving new content opportunities
Not afraid to prioritize and make tough decisions
Strengths include being self-driven, working collaboratively and solving challenging problems
Technical. Quickly learns new tooling and is able to interpret data
Understands and thrives in an environment which employs extensive A/B testing and data usage - Booking.com is a data-informed company
UX Writers with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience within development. Past experience working in ecommerce, or with data-driven product teams is a must.
Candidates with experience managing or coaching others are preferred.
