Software Engineer (For independent contractors)
Role Overview
We are looking for delivery-driven Senior Software Engineers (Java) to join the Regtech Platform team in FinTech. This team builds and evolves the regulatory technology platform that underpins compliance, reporting, and controls across payments and financial products. Contractors are expected to contribute immediately to code delivery, handle complex, ambiguous problems, and operate effectively in an unstructured, fast-changing environment. The focus of this engagement is hands-on implementation, debugging, and production ownership, not consulting or advisory-only work.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain backend services in Java for the Regtech platform.
Contribute directly to feature delivery, including coding, testing, code reviews, and production rollout.
Work with relational databases (MySQL or similar) for data modelling, queries, and performance tuning.
Participate in and improve CI/CD pipelines and release/rollout strategies (e.g. phased rollouts, feature flags, canary deployments).
Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, including on-call participation where applicable.
Collaborate closely with product, data, and compliance stakeholders to translate regulatory and business requirements into technical solutions.
Operate autonomously in an environment with incomplete information, proactively identifying issues and driving them to resolution.
Must-Have Qualifications
7+ years of professional software development experience, primarily in backend
engineering.
Strong hands-on experience with Java (modern ecosystem: Java 8+; Spring/Spring Boot
or similar frameworks).
Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines and production rollout strategies:
Build and deployment automation
Feature flagging / incremental rollouts
Monitoring, alerting, and rollback practices
Hands-on experience with MySQL or other relational databases:
Schema design and migrations
Writing and optimizing complex queries
Understanding of transactions, indexing, performance implications
Proven track record of shipping code to production in complex, distributed systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working with ambiguity and legacy systems.
Fluent English, both spoken and written, suitable for cross-functional collaboration.
Nice-to-have skills
AWS hands-on experience (any of: ECS, EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFormation/Terraform, networking, IAM).
Knowledge of the BPMN standard and workflow automation engines, preferably Camunda (designing, implementing, and operating workflows).
Experience in FinTech / payments / financial services or regulatory / compliance platforms.
Familiarity with observability tooling (metrics, logs, traces) and production SRE practices.
