The Role

Solution Architect to join the Trips Business Unit architecture team. You'll work alongside existing architects supporting Flights, Cars, Rides, Rail, Attractions and Insurance verticals.

You'll also develop and communicate the architecture strategy for your domain, working with engineering and product leadership to shape direction. Driving consistent architectural approaches across verticals where appropriate - identifying common patterns, reducing unnecessary divergence, and helping teams learn from each other.

What You'll Work On

  • Platform Adoption - We're migrating verticals onto company-wide platforms for order management, customer service, and payments. Multiple verticals at different adoption stages. You'll support teams through integration and migration decisions.

  • Insurance Domain - Architecture support for our Insurance vertical. Working with the team on capability development and platform decisions.

  • Front End Strategy - We have open questions about front-end architecture direction. Experience here would be valuable but not essential.

  • Cloud & Infrastructure - Working within our AWS ecosystem and Booking Cloud Framework (BCF) to guide teams on the right technical choices. Helping teams navigate infrastructure decisions, service selection, and architectural patterns within established guardrails.

  • General Trips Architecture - Supporting other verticals and cross-cutting initiatives as they arise. The architecture team works across the full portfolio, so you'll pick up work based on where the need is greatest.

  • AI & Productivity - Exploring how AI tooling can support personal and team productivity. We're interested in practical applications - code assistance, documentation, workflow automation - not hype.

What We're Looking For

  • Hands-on experience with AWS

  • Experience with distributed systems at scale

  • Comfortable working across multiple domains/teams simultaneously

  • Can advise and influence without owning delivery

  • Pragmatic - balances ideal solutions against delivery reality

  • Experience of working in a product aligned organisation

Useful Context

Booking.com's Connected Trip strategy is driving significant platform investment. The Trips BU is where "everything but the stay" lives - Flights, Ground Transport, Attractions, Insurance. Architecture matters here because we're balancing vertical autonomy with platform adoption.

You'd join a small architecture team that works across all verticals. The work is a mix of hands-on technical guidance, strategic input, and supporting teams through platform migrations.
